The Confederate Flag.
It has been in the news a lot lately. And it has come up in my news feed 4 or 5 times today. I think it is sad that this is still an issue the way that it is.
Most recently I saw a post where Apple is pulling civil war video games because of the use of the confederate flag. It is a part of our history. A dark part of our history, but still a part of it. Not using it for things like civil war games, or history books, or re-enactments would be insane. These are completely appropriate uses of it, that acknowledge our country’s history and heritage.
But I hate the confederate flag. I always have. I find it offensive.
When i see it flown proudly it feels the same way as when I see someone stomping on or burning our American flag.
It is the symbol of when our country was torn apart.
Should the south have been allowed to leave the union? I don’t know. And frankly, I don’t really care. But, the federal government said no, and a war was fought. The south lost the war, and the confederacy is no more.
Their flag should not be flown. Doing so is disrespectful to the USA now. In my opinion, anyone that claims to love the USA should be offended when the confederate flag is proudly flown.
It’s like saying “But the south will raise again!” That isn’t love of your country. That’s wishing the confederate states won and the United States remained divided. You can’t have it both ways.
But, like anything else, no one has the right to not be offended. So, if you want to fly it, go ahead. I’m not going to stop you. Just stop and think about what you are really saying when you do fly or wear it ... it isn’t shouting “One Nation” or “Indivisible"
